Trusting Him

In my bible reading today I read Hebrews 4. It is a passage about trusting God, His word and His patterns. There is so much there, I backed up and read it several times. I just wanted to take it all in. I am sure that I did not. There is such power and strength in this passage til it is hard to hear all that the writer is saying in one reading. I am praying that more of this powerful message will be revealed to me throughout this day, but for the moment here is what I received:

" 14Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin. 16Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need."

Since Jesus is our high priest, the one to whom we go, why wouldn't we have faith. He is the one who is completely faithful. I get the impression we are being told in this passage that Jesus already knows exactly what we are going through, so with confidence, even boldness as another translation puts it, let us expect today to receive mercy and grace.

Webster helps us here:

Mercy:

1 a: compassion or forbearance shown especially to an offender
2 a: a blessing that is an act of divine favor or compassion
3: compassionate treatment of those in distress

Grace:
1 a: unmerited divine assistance given humans
2 a: a special favor : disposition to or an act or instance of kindness

O love of God
How rich and pure
How measureless and strong
It shall forever more endure
The saints and angels song

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!

Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Well I have had worship today!

Thank you Pastor Lambert for that word. I will be thinking about this through out the day!
