Going To The Movies

Today is the opening of the "The Dark Knight". I have seen all the marketing, sensed the excitement of Batman fans and now the time has come. Well I am probably somewhat neutral on the movie. To begin with I didn't think I would like the comic book movies but as they have come and gone they have been entertaining.

I also see the title a little differently. Nothing at all to do with the movie because obviously I haven't even seen it, but there is coming a dark "Night". And it is not make believe and it is not going to be a two hour movie.

People who know me are aware that if you gave a theme to my preaching over the years it would have to be "hope". I am a believer in God's love and His desire to reach us with His good news. I believe that God has stopped at nothing to let me know that He loves me. However, contrary to some popular belief, there will still be a judgment. God is a loving God, He is merciful and He wants to have relationship with His creation.

I am not going to go into all of the theological discussion in this short blog, but there is a hell. People who do not accept God's invitation to become His children will go there along with the devil and all his angels. It will not be a two hour movie. It will not be the latest blockbuster from Hollywood. No sadly it will be reality and it will last for eternity.

There is no reason for anyone to go there. God through His son Jesus has made provision for everyone to be in Heaven with Him for eternity. It is a choice. It will be sorrow and pain and grief and torment like no one has ever experienced before for those who are there. It is not designed for men. It is designed for the devil and his demons for their revolt against God and the deception they have made on mankind.

I have heard people as you have and maybe even said myself, "I am going through hell". Well, I was not and neither has anyone else. Hell will be the most awful thing ever.

I don't know whether or not I will see "The Dark Knight". I do not intend for me or anyone I know and love to see "The Dark Night".

John 3:16"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. 19This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
