Rose Colored Glasses

I was reading an article about change by the AG superintendent-elect George Woods this morning on futureag. He was talking about working with young and old to create the change that our fellowship needs to experience.

A mentor of mine said to me "when you look at a challenge always use both the dark colored glasses to get a picture of stark reality and rose colored glasses to see what opportunities the challenge brings."

George Wood said that his mentor told him "
Let your emphasis be on the creative and constructive above the critical and corrective."

I thought what a great two punch approach to look at all the challenges of life.

Any thoughts?

hello pastor-
I think that was very cool! I am so happy that God has brought me here to clearwater, and given me the opportunity to be apart of this great ministry! God bless you.

I prefer tulip colored glasses myself... actually, in reality, this is probably the hardest discipline as a leader to maintain. Human nature always wants us to look at the negative and challenges first. I like what Jim Collins mentions in his book, Good to Great... "Face the brutal facts but never give up faith ..." (Paraphrase)

Dan,
My mentor also pointed out it is always best to work with what you see in the rose colored glasses first. It is so easy to see the challenge and even see it as a problem first.
Those amber colored glasses are pretty cool too.

When I face a challenge, my response is typically to just become overwhelmed. But what a great idea to look at the opportunities, and focus on the right things.

Above all, i try to remember that no matter what hardships may come, to do as Winston Churchill once said:
"Never, Never, Never quit"

I have a pastor who said he would rather error on the side of grace. I believe some may see that as rose colored. It is what I believe the message Jesus was sending to those in "power", to state it simply. I really like the glasses that keep the sun out of my eyes and the other ones that enlarge the print on the page. Have a GREAT day!! P.S. What are "rose colored glasses" anyway!!
